I have a SLIGHT quibble. I think romance novels don't just have a happy ending for length of the story portrayed but have a "happily ever after". I mean that they end under the premise that you can see the 2+ main characters relationship continuing and growing and providing warmth to the main characters after the story has ended.
Otherwise, omg, I'm so glad you brought this up because I remember being SO ANGRY at nicholas sparks and other stories for not having an HEA FOR. NO. GOOD. REASON. It's just like "meh. it's more dramatic/realistic/what-the-fuck-ever if the relationship ends idk why". OH OH OH i remember. I got SO pissed at that fucking LaLaLand. I'm angry all over again just thinking of it.
